Fablehaven: Grip of the Shadow Plague 3

Week's Reading: Chapter 17 to the End

  1. I am so glad that the Shadow plague has been defeated it. It is so good to know that everyone is back to normal. I feel confident that they can trust those immediately around them. That is a start. Now they can all work together again. Strength in numbers. I trust Dougan, he wouldn’t have exposed the Sphinx yet if he was guilty. After all isn’t he Maddox’s brother. They still need to find him too.
It is good to finally know that the Sphinx is bad and not to trust him. I would be so hard to know what to do when you didn’t know. I guess that is why evil loves secrecy. I am so glad that they had the wisdom to get rid of the masks.
I really liked Lena and was so sorry that she had to be sacrificed to save Fablehaven. When they first discussed who would do it I figured it would be her. She was glad to have Patten back even for just a short time. Once his three days were up she would be alone again and missing him. I am sure that all that transpired at the end is why when he went back their relationship was so much better. Without that day maybe he would have been like his uncle. I was pleased that she didn’t take any coaxing to come back once she saw Patton. I really liked Patton! He said that he only knew a little about the Chronometer. There is no way Seth will leave it alone if he has a chance to experiment with it. He will be doing everything he can to figure it out. He is pretty smart. Will he bring Patton and Lena back? I sure hope so. You know that the Chronometer is still going to have something to do with the story.
I like the growth and wisdom and courage of Seth. He is not driving me crazy any more. He is actually thinking. I like the way he thought it through when he was trying to decide if he should follow Coulter and Tanu and when he was trying to goad the Centaurs into helping. More than just looking for an adventure. I think we will see even more growth in him in the next two books.
I liked Kendra’s comment that she wished she could hibernate. Not two days, Two years. . . . . .Why did life always have to roll relentlessly forward? Why was every victory or defeat followed by new worries and new problems? “ Boy doesn’t that sum up life. Fortunately there is also a lot of joy that comes with the worry and problems.
So are there still two more relics to be found? One for each of the next two books.

  2. First of all--I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THE BOOK!Oh, it was so fun to read! I couldn't stop!

I am anxious to see what will happen now that everyone knows that the Sphinx is bad and behind everything. I believe that there are three more relics, but the location of the sanctuaries where the relics are hidden seems to be unknown to everyone, including the Sphinxs. Hopefully it will stay that way.

I too am glad that it was Lena that sacrificed her self, though I will miss her. It wasn't fair to her to have another long life without Patten, she had already done that once. Now both Lena and Patten could be together in Patten's time period and in heaven as Patten said. Lena's sacrifice was the only way. I just feel really bad for Kendra, but I believe she understands that Lena's and Broadhoof's death isn't her fault. But it would be something very difficult to come to terms with.

I am so anxious to learn more about Gavin. I bet he will be their most powerful ally--having more secret abilities and powers than they realize, along with Kendra.

I am also anxious to see what other affects happened to Seth besides having the ability to see dark magic. I am sure his new audibility will also come into play and be beneficial.

So where is the Dragon prince that was released? Do you think he will come more into play, especially considering Gavin's abilities?

  3. Oh! I agree with Rosena in that Maddox will show up in the bathtub in the next book. I bet that he will either have the relic or will know where it is hidden...

  4. I keep reminding myself how old Kendra and Seth are. Are they now 15 and 13? Kendra is really showing a lot of maturity and ability to think stay calm when needed and have courage when necessary. I wish I was more like her. What a lot to go through so young. Must be what it was like for those in Europe during WWII. Kids grew up fast.
Sounded like Seth was taking gold home. Will there be consequences? I love the contrast. Kendra is acting mature but Seth definitely sees things through a kids eyes with kids motivations.
I agree that there are still 3 relics to find. I was confused with the bar the Sphinx had. It was just something that had lost its magical powers and not one of the relics needed.

  5. Well I've finally have found time to blog. I thought the book was great. They seem to get more and more intense with each book. I wonder if the fourth will be able to keep up the pace?

I agree about Lena; Sad, but the best option. I am looking forward to learning more about Gavin. I also think Maddox will show up in the bathtub. I think if I were them, I would be stressing out about missing him when he comes (remember, they have to be there to pull him out.) I think I would try to build some type of alarm system, or think of a way for the brownies to build one.

I'm anxious to see what kind of problems Seth and Kendra run into at home and school this time.

About the Sphinx's bar, it was just an object like the ones Coulter likes to collect.

I wonder how Kendra's weather stick will come in to use, and if we will find out more about what the Sphinx is exactly.

  6. Good point Lana, I forgot that someone had to pull him out of the bathtub. They haven't been watching it very closely. Maybe he has already shown up with no way out. Wouldn't that be the pits. I am getting attached to everyone. Hope no one else has to die in the next books.
