Surprise! I finished my chapters already! I figured I better get a good start this time since I had troubles keeping up on the last book. Too much going on around here! I'm loving the book so far! It definately started with a bang for me. I'm having a very hard time putting it down. It is crazy what has happened to Kendra. You'd think she would be relatively safe with 2 people always watching, but no! The more I read the more I realize how smart the Sphinx is. I figured he was smart and all, but he seems to have people everywhere and to know about everything going on. It seems that Grandma and Grandpa Sorenson are able to keep a step ahead of him or at least keep up with him, but it's very difficult. Grandpa Sorenson suggested he should possibly step down as the caretaker of Fablehaven in a past book (the last one?) but I think all would be lost without him. They all have a lot to contribute to beat the Sphinx, I think. Even Kendra and Seth, though they are just kids. I'm surprised how well Kendra can keep it together. She is becoming very brave and strong. Seth is having better judgement. I like how Seth decided to give back all of the gold because that is what Kendra had wanted. I'm wondering what they are all going to tell Kendra's and Seth's parents when they get Kendra back. That will be interesting. I think it is going to be much harder for Grandpa and Grandma to let Seth and Kendra go home in the future. I was pretty sure that Maddox was a stingbulb. I figured he was when the sphinx mentioned everything he knew and that he was going to find the secret room and the messages left behind by Patton with or without Kendra. He had to send someone, probably someone who everyone at Fablehaven thought of as a friend. It surprised me that Vanessa was out of the box though. I hope they can trust her. Well, it has been a wild ride for me so far and I'm loving it. Sorry if my thoughts are a bit scattered. I hope you all are enjoying this book as much as I am so far!
I couldn't believe that the Sphinx kidnapped Kendra! I was sure that Seth or someone was going to figure something was going on before the Stingbulb committed suicide, and then I thought they would be able to tell that it wasn't Kendra when they did the biopsy. Talk about drama! I felt so bad for everyone when they thought Kendra was dead. I can't figure out how Kendra is going to get out of this one! No one even knows that she is alive to come search for or rescue her!
I feel really bad for the young old men that are with Torina. That would make me angry to loose about 30-40 years of my life to someone that uses it up in about 2!
The Oculus seems quite incredible and not a good tool for anyone to have, especially the Sphinx if he is able to use it. I thought it was cool that Kendra saw the Fairy Queen and that she helped her let go of the crystal.
I was shocked to find out that Maddox was a Stingbulb! It didn't even occur to my mind! Good job Elisa! I hope they will be able to find the real Maddox alive! However, I don't think they can trust Vanessa, or at least not completely. I think that she will eventually turn on them, taking the relics that they find to the Sphinx. She has some kind of plan...
I am also really enjoying this book. It was hard to put down.
I couldn't believe that Kendra was kidnapped so soon. It sounds like the owner of the daycare is dead. He seemed like a really nice guy. I guess better a stranger than someone we like. I can't believe Elisa figured out that he was probably a stingbulb. I had no clue. I am glad he was a stingbulb rather than a traitor. However, I am hoping Maddox is OK. His double said that he agreed to more injuries to make it look more real so hopefully the real Maddox is not in too bad of shape. They better have Mendigo continue to watch the bathtub.
What did you think of Torina's library. It sounded cool but I don't think it would be a very restful room for me. Too distracting.
I thought it was neat that the Fairy Queen knew Kendra had ahold of the oculus and was there to tell her to let go. She apparently is very powerful. I bet we will see more of her throughout the books. I would never want to use it myself. Don't really think I would like seeing that much but you can be sure the Sphinx would enjoy it.
I too am impressed with the way Kendra and Seth are handling the situations. Kendra really is getting brave. She is also very compassionate. It took a lot of courage to try and save Russ. She knows how much power everyone has but put his life ahead of her safety. She seems to think things through well. They are going from one life threatening stress to another. It can be hard enough just dealing with ordinary life. Do you think Seth will be a little more cautious now that he thinks they have killed Kendra. He did say that the tar pit was too far from safety when Newel wanted him to go there. I was really surprised to find that Vanessa was out of the box. I don't totally trust her and am pleased that Grandpa is being cautious. However I am glad she is back and I think she will be a big help. I think her main motivation right now is to get back at the Sphinx. It was intetersting that Seth was the first to figure out that Kendra was probably alive. Of course he was the one who saw the changes in her.
The stingbulb said that Maddox knew where the artifact was and so he was able to tell them. Does the Sphix have it or is that the one they will be going after in this book. It will be interesting to see what it does.
Wow, it is very action packed! I think you all hit the points right on the nail. I almost didn't stop reading it was so good!
I wonder what Kendra is going to do to get away from the Sphinx! It seemed like she had a lot of freedom with Torina but if she's moved not evn Vanessa is going to know where she is anymore. I hope they can get to her before she's moved!
If the Sphinx knows about the man watching the post office, does that mean the man is in danger? I thought he'd find Kendra and rescue her! I was hoping it was Gavin....Can't wait to hear more of what he can do! It was so neat to learn about the dragons in the beginning of the book!
I'm so excited to read more, Can't wait to see what happens with Maddox and Vannessa!
The artifact that the "Maddox" Stingbulb is talking about is the Oculus which was hidden in the vault in Brazil. Is this the artifact that you mean?
I too think that Seth will start making wiser choices. I think the reality of the danger is sinking in more-it is not just a big adventure. I think that Kendra's "death" will help Seth become more mature.
I also thought Torina's library/aquarium was awesome! However, I don't think I could go in there to enjoy a book with eels that nip and a shark that might want to take a bite out of your arm! It would make me a little nervous...
I'm with Emily--I would love to experience the aquarium, but I would not be able to concentrate on even the best of books!
I doubt that they will be able to retrieve Kendra before she leaves with the Sphinx. Hopefully they will be able to figure where they went from there, but the Sphinx is not much for leaving a trail. At least they know she is alive.
I didn't suspect Maddox not being the true Maddox. (Way to go Elisa!) I am glad for the information that Vanessa has shared, and as much as I want to trust her, she still makes me nervous. I don't think she will go back to helping the Sphinx, but I can see her competing with him (which isn't good either). I hope she is truly on their side from now on. It goes to show how hard it is to gain people trust after you have once destroyed it.
I also have been thinking about how they will explain how Kendra is still alive to her parents. I am hoping that somehow the grandparents will be able to convince the parents to move to Fablehaven in the old manor, but I don't know how safe that would be even if they were oblivious to the creatures their.
I feel sorry for Kendra's parents thinking that Kenra is dead. I too wonder how they will tell her parents but for now if they don't defeat the Sphinx's plan they won't have to tell them again.
