Chapters 1-7 by March 17th

  1. I've really enjoyed the "next chapter" of this series so far! The folling are a bunch of quick thoughts that went through my brain after reading....

I knew from the beginning that Errol was up to no good. He really creeped me out. I'm surprised that Kendra went along with him so easily. I know a lot of it had to do with the fact that he seemed to know information about her but still... Maybe it was the magic tricks?? i love magic tricks!

I was so nervous for Seth at the mortuary. No wonder Seth never saw any zombies since Mr. Coulter wasn't really a vampire. Do you think Errol really did give seth the dog bone to serve as a double purpose? I'm pretty sure he did. The whole frog thing is creepy. I would be constantly stressed knowing some frog statue won't rest until it eats me!

I was pretty suspicious of Venessa. At least until she gave the password. So far this book is making me suspicious of everone. I'm guessing that is exactly what the author is trying to do?!

I'm really curious who let out Venessa's scary sounding spiders. I liked how Grandpa was giving the stare down to each of the guests trying to see if they would give anything away.

The Dungeon sounds scary. Definitly not a place I would ever want to visit more than once! I'm guessing we will be hearing more about the jinn. He is one I wouldn't ever want to go up againt. Also, I'm curious to find out what or who is in the Quit Box. Maybe it's the special artifact. It cracked me up when Grandma told Seth one of the old grounds keepers were locked up for trading batteries with the Satyrs. Seth totally deserved it!

Tanu's potion makeing was interesting. I don't think i would want to try any of the potions for emotion that he had. He said a lot of times you feel cleansed after taking an unpleasnt emotion. However, I wasn't buying it. I would probebly keep thinking back to how crapy i felt.

I'm excited to find out what's going to be happening with Warren. I have a feeling there is going to be a lot coming out about his story.(Or maybe i'm just hoping there will be.)
    Well, that's it for know....
    I'm ready to keep reading!

  2. by the way.... remembered what mythical creature Elisa is......She's a Likin (warewolf)!!

  3. I'll be sure to avoid Elisa during full moons!

Case was so gross with the pussy sores. It would be so hard to talk to him and act like you couldn't really see what he was.

I was suspicious of Errol too. He seemed to have easy answers to everything. It sounded like he was making things up as he went.

Kendra trusts that her parents will be safe because of their ignorance now that her and Seth are gone, but the Preface/title page says, "Sitting still would be a mistake, ignorance is no longer a protection." I know it is referring to Seth and Kendra, but I hope it is not referring to the parents as well.

I've got my eye on Vanessa also. Maybe she let the drumants out herself (knowing they weren't poisonous, but would make herself look innocent if they become suspicious of a traitor amongst them.) Though I think that Coulter is the one I distrust the most.

I think if I was Seth I would be having a lot of Frog nightmares, and I am with Janae--One visit to the Dungeon would have been one too many visits for me.

I'm excited to see what Kendra will be able to do for Warren. Like Nae, I think we will learn more about his past as well.

I like when Tanu had them try the emotion potions, though I wouldn't want to do it myself. It is such a good example of how easily our emotions get the best of us. Sometimes we can get so caught up in what we feel that we become very irrational. I like how Tanu says "it makes you wonder, did you have a bad day, or did you make it a bad day."

  4. I think Case's eyes(that were slits) just creeped me out.

I wonder why Kendra could get Warren to do things like looking at her, smiling, and following her around. I like how it said that they can get him to do something by starting him out.

I'd like to be able to go into the dungeon when ever I wanted (To build up my courage, but that would rarely happen!)

The potions were weird. I was surprised that Seth would want to do fear. I thought when Kendra voice cracked and she had a pimple on her chin that Tanu gave her a potion that would make her look and sound like a witch. I changed my mind when it said her sleeves were soaked from tears, I then thought it was to make her cry crocodile tears. I was surprised it was shame. I learned from Tanu that you should never blame things on other people when you are emotional.

  5. Like everyone else, I have the same questions. I too didn't trust Errol and I was worried that they were making a mistake about stealing the frog statue (especially when it is on the cover of my book!)

I am with Lana, I think it is Vanessa that we can't trust. The book seems to want us to distrust Coulter and perhaps Tanu because he can mess with your emotions. It is usually the "innocent" looking ones that are guilty. I wouldn't be surprised if she did let the spider thingys out to make herself look innocent.

I also wonder, along with Nae, if the artifact is in the Quiet Box. It would definitely be a place where no one would want to look in fear of who may be in it.

I am so anxious to hear what the Sphix has to say about Kendra. Her new powers or abilities are becoming more apparent. They are very curious and odd powers...

I find Warren to be a very interesting case. He reminds me of Snow white in a way...It may be because he is handsome; seems to be in a "sleeping" or "dead" state; is albino (like in the cartoon); and when he is kissed he shows "life." I wonder what keeps all of the creatures of Fablehaven away from him? Why do even the evil ones stay away when they may have done this to him? Perhaps a creature did not do this to him...perhaps it is an enchantment that was set up to protect something very important or dangerous...like the artifact?

    So anxious to read on...

  6. Wow, you all had great comments. Covered many of my thoughts. I was really grossed out with Case. It made me think of people you know are devious or not what they present themselves to be. If you tried to tell someone they would just think you were being mean spirited. It makes you feel helpless like Kendra. Her friends had to find out for themselves. I though it was funny that it was because he had bad breath. I think the author was having fun with it. You may fool people sometimes but inside you are the same. (stinky).
I am glad I had girls. I am already worried about what Seth is going to get himself into. He is just too curious. It's just a matter of time. I'm with Nae. I thought it was hilarious that Grandma told him someone was in the dungeon for 50 years for selling batteries to the saytrs. That was funny! I wonder if he turned white.
I guess I am the gulible one. I was fooled by Errol but thought they should be more cautious and not do anything without confirmation from Grandpa. Now I am suspicious of everyone. I too wondered if Vanessa let out her little creatures. However, Grandpa was attacked by a creature that was not changed back by the fairies. Could there be another. I just don't want it to be any of their friends. I would have a lot of trouble sleeping knowing they were out and about. I don't think I would like to sleep smelling garlic but if that is what it takes. . . . .
I am amazed at Kendra's powers. At least 3 things have shown up so far: seeing creatures without milk, helping Warren, and talking with the creature in the dungeon. I wonder if that was why the Evening Star groug wanted her. They don't want her discovering her power and using it against them and would love to recruit her to their cause. I am excited to see what else will become apparent.
I wouldn't want to go into the basement at all but you can be sure Seth will. (Jaci you are a lot braver than me just to consider going again. I don't want to be a chicken.) Why could Kenra see the creatures in the cells and not Seth. Did he need some milk or is there another power for Kenra that they haven't explained to us yet.
Wow you guys are good! You may be right about who or what is in the quiet box. We know though that it will play a part in the story.
I wouldn't want to try any of Tanu's potions but it was fun to read about them. Now I am anxious to hear more about Coulter and the Sphynx. Will Seth be able to keep his mouth shut about what he knows? Grandpa and Grandma have more confidence in him than me.

  7. Mom, I do think that Kendra's ability to see the wolf-man in the cells was because of her new abilities. I'm not sure what it is, but maybe that she has better vision in the dark.

  8. Ok, I'm slow, but in my defense I finished a couple of days ago, just slow getting to the blog. Anyway, everyone pretty much covered what I've been thinking. So maybe I don't have to write anything afterall! :)
The one thing that stood out the most was with Tanu and his potions. The part Lana mentioned about having a bad day. That is something I have been slowly figuring out the past several years. Something I'm always working on!
The basement was fascinating, but I seem to be more like Kendra and tend to be more afraid. Thanks to Nae's comment, now you all know I'm the scary wolf man (I prefer wolf woman) hiding in the darkness. I liked the story of the jinn and I'm convinced they are going to have to deal with him later in this story. I'm just glad it won't be me. Like Nae I wonder if the item they are looking for is in the Quiet box. I think I'd prefer that than it being down with the jinn. I'd hate to have to get it from him! Or it! Whatever!
I also wonder if Vanessa is the naughty one, what better way to throw suspicion off of you. But who knows. For some reason, like Lana, I'm suspicious of Coulter. Maybe because he just sounds creepier. I love Tanu, he better be a good guy! He is probably my favorite character so far.
This story has progressed fast. I love fast moving books. So hard to put it down though. Can't wait to read more! Oh, AND I'm totally diggn' Jaci's comments! Way to go Jaci - I love the way you think!

  9. I thought Casey was creepy. He reminds me of some of my past boyfriends. They were charismatic, good looking, and smooth yet in the end they were creeps. I think the contrast of how others saw Casey's and how he really was makes a strong point. Beware of the smooth talking and deceitful people.

I have to admit I am to trusting because I almost fell for Errl explanations. I am sad that he almost got the kids. Once again here is a smooth talker who tried to deceive Kendra and Seth. At least Grandpa talked with them just in time. I have to agree with everyone this is a real page turner.

I don't know what to think about Vanessa. She was helpful getting Kendra and Seth away, but I kind of wonder about her.

That is as far as I have gotten, but I hope to catch up next week. Life is busy.

  10. Am I the only one who likes Coulter. I think it is because he reminds me of MadEye Moody from the Harry Potter series. Tough, ornery but loveable. I like Tanu and Vanessa too and hope it none of them but unlike you all I kind of like Coulter.
Maybe I am the most gullible.
I would be a sure failure going against the jinn. i suspect that we will see more of him (her) but am wondering who will be smart enought to best him. Kendra? Seth?

  11. I think Vanessa and Coulter are BOTH bad.

I think that the artifact is in the Quiet box too. In order for them to get it out, they will have to put someone in the box in exchange for the artifact and a vicious monster imprisoned in there.
