  1. Wow, going to Wyrmroost is like going to Jarassic Park.

I am so pleased to see how Seth is growing. He is proving very valuable in their quest. If I was his grandparent there is no way I would have let him go see Graulas or go to Wyrmroost either. Thirteen is young and even though he is showing much better judgment I would want to protect him. I like the way he is looking at his motives for doing something. He is being honest with himself in that he still longs for the adventure and is weighing the advantages too. He was already brave (in a careless sort of way) and now with the gifts of darkness he has abilities that none of the others have despite their age or experience. Gifts that only he can get them through with. I think he is very aware of this and has the courage to use. After Kendra’s “death” he is aware of their vulnerability. I think this helped him grow up a lot. He also is very aware how important it is to stop the Sphinx. Succeed here or the world will basically be destroyed and they may as well be dead.

I really liked it when he grabbed Kendra’s hand and unknowingly combined their powers to fend off the dragon. I think it is symbolic of the strength of family. That is why as mothers we try to keep our children close to us and each other.

I like the hermit troll. Wish I could hide like that. I was also impressed that the way Seth dealt with him. He trusted him only to a point. He used Mendigo to be sure he would be safe and also had the foresight to tell them he was there before they put Warren into the knapsack. He must be in the story for more that entertainment. How will he become useful.

Also notice that they are getting further in their quest by honesty. First with the gatekeeper Agad and now with Thronis.

Am I the only one who is trying to look up the different creatures to get a better feel of what they are suppose to look like. I couldn’t find the perytons. Can anyone help me?

  2. Rosena, put "peryton" in the search on google, and it will bring up different sites that will give descriptions of them. As a brief description, they are half deer and bird; and their shadow is that of a man (which Kendra noticed when Mara was tackling the peryton).

  3. I wasn't surprised that Seth stowed away into the knapsack, but it surprised me that Warren influenced and helped him to do it. It goes to show that Warren understands Seth and recognizes his abilities and growth in maturity. I have been wondering this whole time what Grandma Grandpa are doing right now with Seth missing.

I thought it was neat that Patton talked to Agad about both Kendra and Seth. It would be neat to have someone like Patton speak highly of you (or in Seth's case) compare you to himself.

I think that it was neat that Seth and Kendra make a dragon tamer together. I always thought they were a good team. Now with his shadow charmer abilities, he and Kendra make quite a well rounded team.

Seth seems to have a way with talking himself out of trouble, and making friends with others who are potentially dangerous. I wonder if it is part of his Shadow CHARMER abilities. He keeps his calm and doesn't let them get him all rattled up.

I am worried about them stealing for Thronis. Didn't Patton's message on the tombstone say that they were not to take anything from the Dragon temple other than the key?

  4. How did Patton get into the Dragon Temple to leave the key? It took a lot of different powers for them to make it.

I have also worried about them stealing the figurines also. There are so many things that can be addressed in the next and last book. A lot to wrap together. Maybe it will make a difference if the dragons are against them or for them. Hopefully they will convince the Centaurs to be with them again.

  5. Yay, I finished already! It was pretty sneaky of Seth to hide in the knapsack. I wouldn't expect anything less from him. I am a little concerned about Warren helping him out. I'm hoping Lana is right about him understanding Seth and his abilities. I am a little worried he could be working for the wrong side. It just seemed a little suspicious to me that Warren would go against the granparents wishes. Everyone else seems to get where the grandparents are coming from. I'm hoping Warren is good. I know in a lot of stories the bad guy is often someone you have really liked throughout the story. Either way, I'm glad Seth went along. They all really need him.

I was so glad that Seth and Kendra's powers merged together when they were about to be eaten by the dragon. Like I've said before, they are going to make a great team!

I'm also loving the hermit troll. Seth probably would have died of boredome without him! I like his character and the fact they are playing yahtee together. Seth sure has a knack for making friends. Like Rosena, I hope the hermit troll has a purpose, and a good one at that!

I think it is cool that we, as the reader, get to visit all these sanctuaries. We get to meet new creatures and characters. I think it is a lot of fun. I'm hoping they all survive this trip! It sounds very iffy to me! Makes me worried. If anyone can do it, I think this group can, but I'm worried they all won't make it back home. I'm also concerned about Kendra and Warren being stuck in the crevice. I wouldn't want to be in that situation. Although they are safe for now.

It looks like they might be facing Navarog soon too. That sounds like it could be unpleasant. I'm excited to keep reading!

  6. I think it is funny that though the hermit troll doesn't like company he likes yatzee. He may never want to be alone again. I would really like to see him do the victory dance.

  7. I really hope that Warren isn’t bad. It seemed a little suspicious to me that he would want to have Seth stow away in the knapsack. However, along with the rest of you, I think that Seth’s new abilities will come in very handy.
The Sky giant was scary. I was so afraid that he was going to squish Mara’s head. I kept thinking about the story of Jack and the Bean Stock while reading. The giant said he was going to have the griffins take them to the front of the dragon temple but don’t they need to go to the fairy shrine first? Maybe that’s what Warren and Kendra will do once they get out of their tight spot. I wonder if the hermit troll is going to be the one to get them out. He's small and scrawny right?
If I was one of them at the sanctuary I would probably feel nauseous the whole time I was there. So much danger around them. I would have too much anxiety. And on top of it all, just knowing that Narvoag was waiting outside the gate for them to come out so he could steal the key would make it that much worse.
    So excited to keep reading….

  8. Mom, I also look up all the creatures as I go...good to keep the google button handy.

  9. Nae, I agree that you would be sick with anxiety at the sactuary. I still remeber trying to get you to go out to the garage to set something out of the storeroom. Not easy. The sactuary would be a lot scarier than Dad trying to scare you. I can't imagine having to go somewhere like that. I really admire Kendra's strength. I think she is as scared as we would be but overcomes it because she feels that she can do something no one else can do. I am not sure if I could overcome my fear. I would probably just feel helpless. Of Course I don't have any powers either. Having powers and being with others who have powers might help the confidence level a little.
